About Børkop

Børkop is a railway town of a few thousand people on the line between Vejle and Fredericia, with a working sixteenth-century watermill and a Thomas Dambo troll sculpture beside it. The homes are clustered close together, within about two kilometres of one another, so the town is for shopping rather than evenings out. Most houses sleep around six with three bedrooms and a fireplace; a sauna turns up in some, and a private pool is rare. Mørkholt, the local beach, sits in a holiday home and camping area. Its Vognkær Enge section is fine sand with a bathing jetty, while Mørkholt Hage is quite rocky and more built up. Out of season there is little to do at night beyond the house itself.

Getting to Børkop

Billund Airport is the closest, about 35 minutes by car, and the train to Vejle plus bus 43 takes about an hour. Børkop has its own station on the Vejle to Fredericia railway, and bus 350 runs close to Mørkholt Beach, but a car makes the beach and Legoland far simpler.

When to go to Børkop

Legoland and the beach are the draw, and the Danish school summer holiday is the busy time. Outside summer the shore is quiet and the town is the place for shops. Fireplaces make a shoulder-season weekend workable, but expect walks rather than swimming.
