Villas in Juelsminde

About Juelsminde

Juelsminde is a harbour town of about four thousand people, 23 km south-east of Horsens. The marina is the social centre, with restaurants, ice cream kiosks, a playground and mini golf, and a pedestrian shopping street is a short stroll away. Storstranden, the main beach, is fine sand with shallow water, stone groynes to break the waves and a lifeguard in peak season. About a kilometre south, the headland at Bjørnsknude is where the Kattegat meets the Little Belt. Our homes are spread over roughly eight kilometres, so some are a walk from the harbour and others need the car. Most sleep around six and have a fireplace, a few have a sauna, and a pool is not part of the picture here.

Families wanting a calm, shallow beach beside a working harbour

Not for you if

You want lively evenings or a pool, because this is a quiet harbour town where homes rarely have one.

Near Juelsminde

• Bjørnsknude

The headland about a kilometre south of the main beach, where the Kattegat and the Little Belt meet; a walk along the shore takes you to the tip.

• Horsens

The larger town 23 km to the north-west, the obvious choice for a bigger shop or a rainy afternoon.

• Vejle

A town 32 km to the west of Juelsminde, where the bus from Juelsminde connects for Billund airport.

• Endelave

An island reached by ferry from Snaptun harbour, a crossing of about an hour, with cars taken if booked ahead.

Getting to Juelsminde

Billund is the nearest airport, about 54 km away, and the drive takes around 55 minutes. Aarhus is further, about 77 km. Buses from Juelsminde to Billund change at Vejle and take about an hour and three quarters, so a car is the practical choice, particularly as the homes are spread out.

When to go to Juelsminde

Summer is when Juelsminde works best: the lifeguard on Storstranden is a peak season service and the harbour is busiest when the weather feels like summer. Outside the season the town is quiet, so check opening times for the marina cafés and kiosks before an off-season visit, and plan on a fireplace evening rather than a night out.
