Saltum suits families who want Fårup Sommerland and a long North Sea beach nearby, in a village of about 700 people. Houses lie between the village and the coast, so evenings are quiet and every errand means driving.
Saltum is a village of under 700 people in Jammerbugt Municipality, so it has little of its own for visitors. The reason to book here is the coast. The beach runs about 19 km from Løkken south to Rødhus, past Blokhus, Grønhøj and Saltum, and the sand is compacted enough to drive on year round. Our houses sit a few kilometres from the village, between it and the sea, and few are more than a short distance apart. Blokhus is the busy end, with a lifeguard and 47 white beach huts in summer and a cannon fired near the beach centre on summer evenings. Most houses here have a fireplace and many a sauna, which is how evenings go. Outside summer the area empties and the amusement park is shut.
Beach town with white sand and dunes, a lifeguard in summer, a beach centre with café and ice cream, and a cannon fired each summer evening.
Amusement park between Blokhus and Løkken, opened in 1975, with a large water park included in admission and a log flume.
Seaside town of about 1,700 people where tourism took off after a beach hotel opened in 1895; many rented holiday homes.
Garden with a small café in Hune, just east of Blokhus, open on set afternoons from late April to early October.
Aalborg Airport, in Nørresundby, is the nearest, and Norwegian lists London Gatwick among its destinations, so check it flies on your dates. Otherwise connect through Copenhagen. You need a car here: the houses are a few kilometres from both the village and the beach, and the beach itself can be driven on.
Fårup Sommerland opens roughly April or May to September, plus a spell in mid-October, so July and August are when the park, the lifeguard and the beach huts are all in place, and also when Blokhus is at its busiest. Spring and autumn give quiet sand and no rides. Winter suits a fireplace or sauna week, and the beach stays drivable year round.
Yes, if the amusement park is the draw. Fårup sits between Blokhus and Løkken on the same stretch of coast, and its water park is included in the ticket. It opens roughly April or May to September, so check dates.
Yes. The beach from Løkken south to Rødhus, which passes Saltum, has sand compacted enough to drive on year round, and Blokhus Beach also allows driving. Look for local signs and speed limits before you go.
Choose Blokhus for cafés, shops and the beach centre close by, and Saltum for a village of about 700 and a calmer base. Blokhus gets around a million visitors a year, which is why some people stay inland and drive in.
It can be, for a fireplace and sauna week, since most houses listed here have a fireplace and many have a sauna. Fårup Sommerland is closed outside its season and the beaches are empty.
