About Rønne
Rønne is Bornholm's capital, with about fourteen thousand people and cobbled streets of half-timbered houses. It is the island's oldest market town, dating to 1327, and the town was rebuilt after the Second World War with help from Sweden. The harbour area has galleries and craft shops, Store Torv is the central square, and Hjorths Fabrik, founded in 1859, is a living museum of the local pottery craft. Galløkken, Nørrekås and Antoinette are the town beaches, Nørrekås a small one by the marina. Our homes are spread over about eight kilometres, mostly sleeping around six, and most have a fireplace. Rønne Theatre is the oldest working theatre in Denmark, and Musikhuzet on Store Torv hosts concerts throughout the year.

Is Rønne a good base for the whole of Bornholm?
Yes, mostly. Roads from almost everywhere on the island lead to Rønne, bus routes start and end there, and four cycle paths run across the island from it. The airport and main ferry port are also here.
Are there beaches near Rønne?
Yes. Galløkken, on the edge of town, is good for a day of swimming, Nørrekås is a small beach near the marina, Antoinette lies in the north of town, and Onsbæk is another option.
How do you get to Rønne from the UK?
Fly to Copenhagen, then take the short domestic flight to Rønne, or take a ferry from Køge, Ystad or Sassnitz. The catamaran from Ystad links to a direct train from Copenhagen.
Is Rønne worth visiting for pottery?
Yes. Bornholm pottery uses local clay and kaolin, and Hjorths Fabrik is a living museum founded in 1859 where you can book a wheel-throwing course, and Mie Mølgaard Ceramics sits below St Nicolas' Church by the harbour.
Is Rønne quiet in winter?
Not entirely. Musikhuzet, the island's largest indoor music venue, hosts concerts and cultural events throughout the year. Some seasonal places may close, so check opening times before you travel.
