Rønne suits couples and families who want Bornholm's main town, with its harbour, museums and the island's only airport. Our homes are spread around Rønne, so check each one's distance to the centre before you book.
Rønne is Bornholm's capital, with about fourteen thousand people and cobbled streets of half-timbered houses. It is the island's oldest market town, dating to 1327, and the town was rebuilt after the Second World War with help from Sweden. The harbour area has galleries and craft shops, Store Torv is the central square, and Hjorths Fabrik, founded in 1859, is a living museum of the local pottery craft. Galløkken, Nørrekås and Antoinette are the town beaches, Nørrekås a small one by the marina. Our homes are spread over about eight kilometres, mostly sleeping around six, and most have a fireplace. Rønne Theatre is the oldest working theatre in Denmark, and Musikhuzet on Store Torv hosts concerts throughout the year.
A living pottery museum founded in 1859, offering wheel-throwing courses and workshops.
Housed in Kastellet, a round tower of 1744 with walls 3.5 metres thick.
A beach for swimming on the edge of town, where the Green Ring trail around Rønne begins in the south.
The church stands in front of the town's oldest district of half-timbered houses and cobbled streets.
Rønne has the island's only airport, with flights to Copenhagen, which has flights from several London airports. Ferries run from Rønne to Køge, Ystad and Sassnitz, and a fast catamaran links Ystad with a direct train to Copenhagen. Bus routes begin in Rønne, but a car or bike helps.
Summer is the time for swimming at Galløkken and Nørrekås and for walking the Green Ring. Rønne is a working town all year, and Musikhuzet hosts concerts and cultural events in every season. Temperatures stay fairly balanced through the year, and the climate is mild enough for fig trees to grow on the island. Check museum and restaurant opening hours outside summer.
Yes, mostly. Roads from almost everywhere on the island lead to Rønne, bus routes start and end there, and four cycle paths run across the island from it. The airport and main ferry port are also here.
Yes. Galløkken, on the edge of town, is good for a day of swimming, Nørrekås is a small beach near the marina, Antoinette lies in the north of town, and Onsbæk is another option.
Fly to Copenhagen, then take the short domestic flight to Rønne, or take a ferry from Køge, Ystad or Sassnitz. The catamaran from Ystad links to a direct train from Copenhagen.
Yes. Bornholm pottery uses local clay and kaolin, and Hjorths Fabrik is a living museum founded in 1859 where you can book a wheel-throwing course, and Mie Mølgaard Ceramics sits below St Nicolas' Church by the harbour.
Not entirely. Musikhuzet, the island's largest indoor music venue, hosts concerts and cultural events throughout the year. Some seasonal places may close, so check opening times before you travel.
