Kali is a fishing town on the island of Ugljan, across the Zadar Strait from Zadar, with mostly small homes and private pools. You reach it by ferry, so allow for the crossing and drive on the island.
Kali is the only settlement in its municipality, with about 1,600 residents on Ugljan's cultivated eastern coast. Trawlers are moored in two harbours either side of its peninsula, and the old centre was built on a hill around St Lawrence's Church. Kali was first recorded in 1299. The homes are small, mostly for two to four, most have a private pool, and they lie close around the town. A fishermen's festival is held every August. Olives are a major crop on the island.
