Kraj, a village on the island of Pašman, suits families and couples wanting a quiet island base a 15-minute ferry from Biograd. Homes mostly sleep four to eight. Pašman's beaches are largely pebble and rock, and the sandy ones are on the north side, so bring a car.
Kraj is one of the eight villages of Pašman municipality, on a 60-square-kilometre island between Zadar and Biograd na Moru. In the village stands the Franciscan monastery of St Duje, built in 1390 for Bosnian Franciscans beside the older Church of St Dujam. Island life is low-key, with fishing and farming the traditional trades and tourism a more recent addition. On the east side you swim from natural rocks and long stone ledges, and the roadless south has a view of the Kornati National Park. The homes are spread over two or three kilometres, mostly with two bedrooms, and some have a private pool.
The island's other municipality and its ferry port for Biograd na Moru, about 15 minutes across on line 432.
Joined to Pašman by the Ždrelac Bridge, with the ferry port of Preko about 25 minutes from Zadar.
Pašman's undeveloped southern side, with no roads, has a view across to the Kornati National Park.
Fly to Zadar. There are two ways onto the island: the ferry from Zadar to Preko on Ugljan, about 25 minutes, then the road across the Ždrelac Bridge; or the 15-minute ferry from Biograd na Moru to Tkon. You will want a car on Pašman.
By ferry. Jadrolinija line 432 runs from Biograd na Moru to Tkon on Pašman in about 15 minutes, and Kraj lies on the same island, so the rest of the trip is by road.
Mostly not. Pašman's beaches are largely pebble and rock with small jetties; the sandy beaches and pine woods are on the island's north side.
The Franciscan monastery of St Duje, built in 1390 for Bosnian Franciscans next to the older Church of St Dujam, stands in Kraj and is worth a look.
Yes. Pašman had under 3,000 residents across its ten villages at the 2011 census, and fishing and farming remain the traditional ways of life.
