Vandans is a good pick for families needing a roomy holiday home in the Montafon village where the Golm gondola starts. The same mountain has an alpine coaster, a rope park and a flying fox. Evenings are quiet, and the other Montafon ski areas mean a drive.
Vandans is a village of about 2,600 people at around 650 metres in the Montafon, on the Bludenz to Schruns railway. It is a mountain village known for skiing and hiking rather than nightlife. The homes are in and around the village, not far from the valley station of the Golmerbahn, which climbs in stages via Latschau to the Golmer Joch at about 2,120 metres. So a ski area of nine lifts and cable cars starts in the village. Evenings are low-key, with Schruns the place for more life. Many homes here sleep six or more, with three bedrooms and a garden; check each listing for a sauna or fireplace.
The mountain reached from Vandans, with nine lifts in winter and Golmi's Forschungspfad, a 3.5 km children's nature trail with 21 stations.
The Golm's other entry point, Latschau, is on Tschagguns land; the village is known for its traditional architecture and postcard setting.

Vandans station is on the Bludenz to Schruns railway, served by the S4. From Bregenz it is about 40 minutes by car or around an hour and ten minutes by train. A car makes the valley's other ski areas easier to reach.
In winter the Golm lifts run from the village, and five more ski areas in the Montafon give 297 km of slopes in all. The Golmerbahn also runs in summer, and the Montafon has 260 km of cycling and mountain bike trails for the warmer months.
It is. The Golm above Vandans has Vorarlberg's first alpine coaster, about 2.6 km from Latschau down to Vandans, a forest rope park with eleven courses, a 565-metre flying fox over the Latschau reservoir and a 3.5 km children's trail.
The Golmerbahn's valley station is in Vandans at about 650 metres. It climbs in three sections via Latschau and Matschwitz to the Golmer Joch, so the lift starts right in the village.
Yes. Vandans has a station on the Bludenz to Schruns line, served by the S4 regional train, and trains from Bregenz take a little over an hour.
