About Ernen
Ernen sits at 1,196 m on a moraine terrace above the left side of the Rhône, in the Goms district of Valais. The whole village is in the Inventory of Swiss Heritage Sites, and in 1979 it won the Wakker Prize for preserving its architecture. The late Gothic church of St Georg was built between 1510 and 1518, and the village square is one of the draws. Each summer the village hosts Musikdorf Ernen, a small classical music festival that focuses on niche pieces. The homes are small, usually sleeping two to four, with a garden in only a few, and the village is quiet at night outside festival time.
