Rueras Dieni is a pair of villages in Tujetsch, near the source of the Vorderrhein, with ski lifts and a sledge run. Sedrun is the main settlement here, so services are limited.
Rueras and Dieni are localities of Tujetsch, the westernmost municipality in Graubünden, sitting on the left bank of the Vorderrhein. Most people speak Romansh. The Dieni-Milez ski lifts of 1962 started the ski area, and since 2014 it has been expanded with the slopes above Andermatt into SkiArena Andermatt-Sedrun. A 4 km sledge run drops about 480 metres from Milez back to Dieni, with a chairlift taking you up, and the valley station is only a hundred metres from the road. Above Dieni a hay meadow looks across to Piz Badus, and the Senda Sursilvana hiking trail passes through the municipality. Homes sit close together, mostly sleeping six, a good number with a fireplace, and none with a private pool.
The main settlement and municipal capital of Tujetsch, with the valley's larger services and information centre.
The pass at the head of the valley towards Uri; the road closes in winter.
Its slopes form SkiArena Andermatt-Sedrun together with the Sedrun side, on the far side of the Oberalp Pass.
Down the valley at the end of the Matterhorn Gotthard railway's line from Brig, for a day out by train.
Zurich is the practical airport, around two hours by car to Sedrun. The Matterhorn Gotthard railway runs through the valley, but from Zurich by train the trip is much longer than by road, about five hours. The Oberalp Pass road closes in winter, so the railway is the only winter-safe link westward.
Winter is the lift and sledge season at Dieni; conditions can block the sledge run, so check with the local information centre before heading out. In summer the Senda Sursilvana trail, the view of Piz Badus and the SAC huts Badus and Maighels draw walkers and climbers. The Oberalp Pass road is shut in winter.
Close. The Dieni to Milez lifts, built in 1962, began the area's ski network, and the chairlift's valley station sits only a hundred metres from the road.
Yes. The Milez to Dieni run is 4 km long with a descent of about 480 metres. A chairlift takes you up, and the steep first part runs beside the ski slope before an easier treated track.
Sedrun is the main settlement and municipal capital of Tujetsch. Rueras and Dieni are smaller localities on the left bank of the river, nearer the Dieni lifts and quieter.
No, the pass road closes in winter. The Matterhorn Gotthard railway is the only winter-safe connection westward from the valley.
Yes. The Senda Sursilvana long-distance trail passes through Tujetsch, and SAC huts such as Badus and Maighels serve hikers and climbers.
