Flumserberg Bergheim suits families and groups of six or more who want a quiet base at Flumserberg, high above the Walensee. Homes here run larger than usual, often with three bedrooms and some with a fireplace. Without a car, expect a train to Flums and then the hourly bus up.
Flumserberg is not one village but a string of them, spread between 1,160 and 1,344 metres on a terrace above Flums in the canton of St. Gallen, looking across the Walensee to the Churfirsten. Our homes are grouped close together at Bergheim, a stop on the hourly PostAuto route up from Flums. Tannenbodenalp, the highest of the three main villages, is where the SeeJet gondola arrives from the lakeshore. In winter there are 20 km of cross-country trails on the Prodalp and Tannenboden and a 3 km toboggan run from Prodalp down to Tannenheim. Evenings around Bergheim are quiet and mostly spent indoors.
The lake below the resort, about 20 minutes away by car or reached on the eight-seater SeeJet gondola down to Unterterzen.
The highest of the three main Flumserberg villages at 1,344 metres and the top station of the gondola from Unterterzen.
Start of the 3 km winter toboggan run to Tannenheim and part of the resort's cross-country trail network.
The valley town below, 13 minutes from Bergheim on the PostAuto 441 bus, which runs hourly.
Zurich airport is about an hour and ten minutes away by car. By public transport the trip takes around two hours and twenty minutes: train to Flums with a change at Ziegelbrücke, then the hourly PostAuto 441 bus up to Bergheim. A car makes ski kit and shopping far easier.
Winter brings downhill skiing, cross-country trails, three signposted snowshoe routes and the long toboggan run. In summer the resort has 150 km of hiking trails, 13 km of bike trails, the 2 km Floomzer summer toboggan run and the six-hour 7 Summit Tour.
PostAuto bus 441 runs hourly from Flums Post to the Bergheim stop and takes around 13 minutes. The road distance is about 6 km, and walking up takes close to an hour.
Yes, particularly larger ones. Homes here often have three bedrooms and several sleep eight or more, and on the snow the resort has two free practice areas as well as its FamilyRun.
You can. The SeeJet gondola runs from Tannenboden via Oberterzen down to Unterterzen, where the valley station sits next to the railway station on the lakeshore.
For walkers it is. There are 150 km of hiking trails, views over 150 peaks on clear days, the Floomzer summer toboggan run, the CLiiMBER climbing tower and adventure golf.
