Bad Ragaz is a spa town in the St. Gallen Rhine Valley, suiting couples who want thermal baths, the Tamina Gorge and the Pizol. Homes are compact and none has a pool.
Bad Ragaz is a traditional spa town in the St. Gallen Rhine Valley, with historic spa gardens of old trees, the Freudenberg castle ruins above it and the Giessenpark, with its natural lake, along the Tamina promenade. The Tamina Therme has pools of warm thermal water and a sauna world, and a secured path in the Tamina Gorge, 70 metres deep, leads to a spring that emerges at body temperature and to the Old Bad Pfäfers. The homes are spread over a few kilometres around the town, are mostly for two to four people, and none sleeps a large group. About a quarter have their own sauna, and few have a garden. Above the valley a gondola climbs the Pizol, a summer and winter sports area, and a bike route crosses the Rhine.
The town of the Heidi Village and Heidi House, among the vineyards of the Bündner Herrschaft, one of Switzerland's best-known wine regions.
A mountain reached by gondola, with summer and winter sports and a five-lake hike that ends at the Wangs mountain station.
A 70 metre deep gorge with a secured path to the thermal spring, reached by gorge bus or on foot in just over an hour.
One of the two best-known skiing and hiking regions of Heidiland, alongside the Pizol.
Zurich Airport is about an hour and a quarter away by car, or around two hours by train through Zurich main station, sometimes with a change at Sargans. A car is useful for the Pizol and the wider Heidiland region.
Summer suits hiking, the bike route across the Rhine and the Tamina Gorge, with the Pizol five-lake hike the big day out. In winter the Pizol and Flumserberg are the skiing regions, and the thermal baths give a warm option in any weather. Check gondola and gorge opening times before travelling outside the main seasons.
