Lenk suits skiers and walkers who want the Adelboden-Lenk ski area from the highest village in the Simmental. Most homes are small apartments and chalets for four or fewer, and none has a private pool. The trade-off is distance: Zurich airport is around four hours away by train.
Lenk is a village of just over two thousand people at the southern end of the Simmental, the highest municipality in the valley, and the Wildstrubel is the tallest peak named in its territory. The Simme rises at the Siebenbrunnen, where spring water bubbles out of a limestone wall, and a medicinal spa opened here in 1843; the Lenkerhof hotel still sells spa access to day guests. Our homes sit close to the village, mostly apartments and chalets that sleep four or fewer, and a fair share have a garden. Evenings mean the village restaurants. In both seasons the lifts on the Betelberg and the Metschstand do the heavy lifting, carrying skiers up in winter and walkers in summer.
Linked to Lenk over the Hahnenmoos and by the shared ski area; its Chuenisbärgli World Cup mountain has the giant slalom course.
Near the Engstligenalp above Adelboden, described as among the most water-rich waterfalls in Switzerland.
Near Lenk; from the Barbara Bridge you see the water plunging into the depths below.
The Simmental town connected to Lenk by rail, and the point from which Gstaad and Château-d'Œx can be reached.
Zurich is the usual airport, a little under four hours by train; Bern is listed as the nearest, with the city itself about 80 km away. Trains reach Lenk via Zweisimmen, and holiday apartment guests can use the Simmental Card to travel free of charge.
Winter means the Adelboden-Lenk lifts, the Gran Masta Park on the Hahnenmoos, the cross-country trail between Lenk and Zweisimmen and marked winter hiking trails. In summer the Murmeli Trail at Betelberg, the Simmen Falls and the walk to the Iffigfall fill the days. The Älplerfest in Lenk is listed for 10 October in 2026.
Lenk shares the Adelboden-Lenk ski area, which is promoted as having more than 200 km of pistes. The Hahnenmoos pass links the two villages, and the Gran Masta Park terrain park sits on the Hahnenmoos.
Yes. A cross-country trail runs between Lenk and Zweisimmen, and the village also has marked winter hiking trails for people who would rather skip the downhill slopes altogether.
The Simmen Falls and the Iffigfall waterfall are the main walks, the second reached through the Lenkerseeli protected zone. At Betelberg the Murmeli Trail runs for more than three kilometres through marmot country, and a 7.5 km trail explores an unusual landscape formation.
Yes. The Lenkerhof spa resort sells day-guest spa access, and Lenk's mineral spa tradition goes back to 1843. Day packages with spa access are listed from around CHF 80, so you do not need to be a hotel guest.
Choose Lenk for the Simmental side, with its rail link through Zweisimmen, and Adelboden for the Chuenisbärgli World Cup mountain and the Engstligen Falls. Both use the same ski area, linked over the Hahnenmoos, so the lifts are not what separates them.
