About Gstaad
Gstaad lies at 1,050 metres in the German-speaking part of the canton of Bern, inside the municipality of Saanen. It is one of ten villages in the holiday region, along with Saanen, Schönried, Lauenen, Turbach and Feutersoey. The centre is car-free, with cafés and chalet-style shops. Our homes sit within a few kilometres of it, mostly for four or five people, with no pools and few gardens. The ski area is described as 220 km of slopes, and one cable car runs to Glacier 3000 and another to the Sanetsch reservoir. In summer there is hiking, bike routes, bathing lakes and what is billed as Europe's highest wake park on the Hornberg. The Gstaad Palace opened in 1913, and past residents include Elizabeth Taylor and Roger Moore.

Yes. The region has three ski areas, described as 220 km of slopes, and Glacier 3000 guarantees snow from December to March. The village itself sits at 1,050 metres, so low-level snow varies from year to year.
How do you get to Glacier 3000 from Gstaad?
Take a PostBus from Gstaad to Col du Pillon, then the cable car, which runs daily at 20-minute intervals and takes 15 minutes to the summit station. The Peak Walk bridge is just outside it.

Active. There are hiking trails, bike routes, via ferratas and bathing lakes, plus the Swiss Open tennis in July. The Züglete, when decorated cows come down from the pastures, is a local summer event.
Is Gstaad the same as Saanen?
