About Casale Marittimo
Casale Marittimo stands 214 metres up, with a stone and brick medieval centre whose later walls form semicircular rings round the castle remains. The Touring Club has given it its orange flag. At Casa Nocera lie the tombs of Etruscan warrior princes, whose two statues rank as the oldest freestanding figures in European art. The countryside around produces olive oil, honey and wine, and the village is on the Costa degli Etruschi wine route. Events run from spring to autumn, including snail and wild boar food festivals in July and August. Homes lie in and around the village and most have a private pool; they suit mid-sized families, and few sleep more than eight. The sea is about 12 km off, so beach days are a drive.
