Peschici is a clifftop village on the Gargano coast in Puglia, suited to couples and small families wanting beaches and a white old town. Bari airport is about three hours away by road.
Peschici stands on a karst spur more than 100 m above the sea, on the northeast coast of the Gargano promontory and inside the Gargano National Park. The old town has cube-shaped houses with white domes, arches and old churches, and a castle from the mid-13th century stands at the end of the cliff. Its bay holds one of the largest beaches in the area, popular with families and, because it is exposed to the wind, with surfers; smaller beaches such as Jalillo, Calenella and Sospetto lie along the coast. Ferries to the Tremiti Islands leave from the small port. The homes are grouped around the village, and most have air conditioning but only some have a private pool. Most are small, sized for two to four people. Mediterranean scrub covers parts of the land, with Aleppo pines further inland, and evenings centre on the old town.
About 19 km east along the coast, a tourism hub with a hilltop old village and two long white-sand beaches.
About 14 km away, a coastal town with views stretching out to the Tremiti Islands.
About 9 km west of Peschici, a well-known beach with good facilities on the way towards Rodi Garganico.
Reached by ferry from the small port at Peschici, and the islands can be visited in winter too.
Bari airport is about three hours away by road. Public transport from there takes eight hours or more with two or three changes, so a hire car or transfer is the practical choice, and it helps for reaching beaches along the coast.
Check ferry and restaurant times before an off-season visit. The Tremiti Islands can also be visited in winter, with fishing and kayaking among the activities. Inland, the Umbra Forest, the green heart of the Gargano, gives a change from the coast at any time of year.
Yes. The bay at Peschici has one of the largest beaches in the area, popular with families and with surfers because it catches the wind, and smaller beaches such as Jalillo, Calenella and Sospetto lie nearby.
Peschici is the smaller clifftop village, about 19 km west of Vieste, which is a busy tourist hub with two long white-sand beaches. Choose Peschici for a quieter old town.
By ferry from the small port behind the ruins of the former abbey. The islands can be visited in winter too, with fishing and kayaking among the activities.
No, Sospetto is pebbly, with rocky walls around it. For a more secluded spot try Jalillo, while the bay of Peschici itself is one of the largest beaches in the area.
Roughly three hours by car. Public transport takes eight hours or more with two or three changes, so driving or a booked transfer is far quicker.
