Postal, also called Burgstall, is a South Tyrol village next to Merano, with small homes that nearly all have a sauna. Most have a private pool, they mostly sleep two or three, and fewer than half have a garden. Expect a quiet valley village and a longer transfer from Verona.
Postal is a village of about 2,000 people in the Burggrafenamt. The centre lies at around 270 metres on the eastern side of the valley, and the municipality's western edge reaches the Adige river. To the east it climbs to about 1,000 metres on the Tschögglberg slopes, so the municipality runs from the valley floor up onto the slopes. Half of its 6.7 square kilometres is farmland or forest. Its coat of arms, a sparrowhawk, comes from the Knights of Burgstall. German is the first language of about three in four residents. The homes are spread over a few kilometres, and evenings are quiet.
The neighbouring municipality. Driving from Bolzano airport to Merano takes about 26 minutes.
Another of Postal's neighbouring municipalities, which together with Gargazon, Mölten, Vöran and Merano surround the village.
Verona airport to Merano takes about an hour and three quarters by road, and Bolzano airport to Merano about 26 minutes by car. Postal borders Merano, and a car makes getting around the valley much easier.
Yes. Postal is the Italian name and Burgstall the German one. German is the first language of roughly three in four residents, and Italian of about a fifth.
Nearly all do, and most have a private pool and air conditioning. Fewer than half have a garden, and the homes are mostly small, for around two or three, with a few for eight.
Bolzano is much nearer: the drive from its airport to neighbouring Merano takes about 26 minutes, against about an hour and three quarters from Verona airport to Merano. A hire car helps from either.
