About Ialyssos
Ialyssos is a town of roughly 13,000 people on the north-west coast of Rhodes, 8 km west of Rhodes Town. It stands near the site of ancient Ialysus, home of the boxer Diagoras. The bay has a long organised beach, and because this is the usually windward coast, it hosts international windsurfing competitions. Hotels and resorts line the coast, especially in the newer settlement of Ixia, and the town has shops of all kinds and plenty of nightclubs. Up on Filerimos hill are a medieval monastery and chapel with views over the north of the island. Our homes are spread over a few kilometres. Nearly all have a pool, air conditioning and a garden, and many sleep eight or more.
Is Ialyssos right for you?
- Best for
- Groups wanting a pool near Rhodes Town and the airport
- Not for you if
- You want calm water for small children, because this west coast takes the wind and can be rough.

Getting to Ialyssos

When to go to Ialyssos
Rhodes is typically sunny and mild, with 300 or more sunny days a year. The west coast takes the wind, which is why windsurfers come and why swimmers sometimes find the sea rougher than on the calmer east coast. On the bay itself, summers are described as pleasantly cool and winters as mild.

Ialyssos villa holidays: questions answered
Is Ialyssos good for windsurfing?
Yes. The town sits on the usually windward coast, which makes it a noted windsurfing spot, and important international windsurfing competitions often take place in its bay.
How far is Ialyssos from Rhodes Town?
About 8 km, with Rhodes Town to the east. Rhodes Diagoras Airport is on the same west coast as Ialyssos, about 14 km from Rhodes Town.
Is the sea calm at Ialyssos?
Not always. Wind mostly comes from the west, which makes the west coast rougher and better for surfing, while the east coast has calmer water, a point worth weighing with young children.
What is Filerimos near Ialyssos?
A hill with medieval remains, including a monastery and a chapel. It gives good views over the north of the island and is the obvious sightseeing stop above the resort.
Does Ialyssos have an evening scene?
Yes. It has many nightclubs, shops of all kinds, and both big and small hotels, so it is a resort town in the evening rather than a village.
