Gennadi suits quiet villa stays on southern Rhodes, with a sandy shore, a few hotels and beach bars, and little else in the way of a resort. It is about 64 km from Rhodes Old Town, so expect a long transfer from the airport and a hire car for everything.
Gennadi is a small resort on southern Rhodes that only began to be developed in the early 2000s. The sandy shore from Gennadi down to Prasonisi is among the last unspoiled stretches of coastline left on the island. You get sand, hotels and beach bars, and the place attracts keen surfers. The homes are spread over a wide area, so think of them as around Gennadi rather than on the beach. Most have a private pool and a garden, and they are mostly houses for around six. Roads in the southern interior can turn out to be little more than dirt paths, so check directions to your house. At Prasonisi, the island's southern tip, the windsurf rentals open only in season.

Rhodes Diagoras airport is on the west side, about 14 km south-west of Rhodes city, and has seasonal flights from London Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton and Stansted. Gennadi is about 64 km from Rhodes Old Town, so allow a long drive. Hire a car; interior roads in the south can be little more than dirt paths.
Summers are hot and very dry, with almost no rain from June to August, and the sea is warmest in August. The flat-water side at Prasonisi gets very busy in July and August. Wind on Rhodes comes mostly from the west. Most rain falls between November and January, and all the London routes to the island are seasonal.
Gennadi draws keen surfers, and Prasonisi at the southern tip is known for predictable, reliable winds. The Aegean side there has waves for advanced surfers, while the Mediterranean side is flat water better suited to beginners.
Only lightly. Development began in the early 2000s, and the resort is mostly sand, hotels and beach bars. The shore from here to Prasonisi is among the last unspoiled stretches of coastline on Rhodes.
Pick Gennadi for space and quiet, and Lindos for the acropolis, whitewashed houses and a trendy town beach. Lindos is about 50 km from Rhodes town against Gennadi's 64 km, so a day trip from Gennadi is easy enough by car.
Winter suits you if you want it empty. Rhodes winters are mild, but most rain falls between November and January, all the London routes are seasonal, and the windsurf rentals at Prasonisi open only in season.
