Waldkirchen is a town in the Bavarian Forest, at 573 metres, with a city wall, a marketplace and a labyrinth beneath the town. Homes here sleep two to six and all have a garden, but few have a sauna and none a pool. There is no passenger train, so plan on a car.
Waldkirchen sits at 573 metres inside the Bavarian Forest. The sights in town are the city wall, St Peter's and St Paul's churches, the marketplace and the Schratzlgaenge labyrinth under the town. It grew as a trading place on the Goldener Steig, a medieval salt-trading route between Bavaria and Bohemia. The homes are spread over a few kilometres around the town, all with a garden and none with a pool. Wi-Fi is far from universal, so check before booking if you work online. Expect quiet evenings in a small town, and check opening times outside summer.
