Saint Cyprien suits families who want 6 km of fine sand, a big marina and a flat, easy-going resort near Perpignan. It was built as a modern seaside resort, so look elsewhere for old streets, and strong winds are common.
Saint-Cyprien is a beach resort of around twelve thousand people whose numbers multiply roughly sevenfold in summer. It is one of seven resorts developed from the 1960s under the Languedoc-Roussillon coastal scheme, and the fine-sand beach runs for about 6 km. The marina is described as the third largest in France. The whole commune is close to sea level, with a high point of only 29 m, so getting about on foot or by bike is easy. Our homes lie close together around the resort, mostly one-bedroom places for about four, with more than half having a private pool and air conditioning in most. Inland, Saint-Cyprien Village has Place Desnoyer in front of the town hall and a church rebuilt in the eighteenth century on Romanesque remains. The town has a 27-hole golf course and the Aqualand water park.
The old capital of Roussillon, 13 km inland from the coast, with the Palace of the Kings of Majorca and the Castillet gate.
An ancient episcopal town only about 3.5 km from Saint-Cyprien, once known as Illiberis.
A small Côte Vermeille town with a royal castle, a history as a meeting place for Fauve painters and a name for anchovies.
A Natura 2000 lagoon complex covering about 1,869 hectares, close to the resort on the Roussillon coast.
Perpignan-Rivesaltes airport, near the city, has seasonal Ryanair flights from London Stansted, Birmingham and Leeds/Bradford. Saint-Cyprien lies about 13 km from Perpignan as the crow flies. A car makes the beaches, the village and inland sights easy to combine.
The area gets about 2,600 hours of sun a year and strong winds are frequent. Tourism drives the economy, and the population multiplies about seven times in summer, so July and August are busy, with many events on Place Maillol. A Tuesday market runs from May to late September, and the Friday market carries on all year, which gives a reason to come in the quieter months too.
Yes. The beach is about 6 km of fine sand, there is a water park called Aqualand, and the resort is flat. Our homes are mostly small, so they suit families of up to four.
About 13 km as the crow flies. Perpignan-Rivesaltes airport sits near the city and has seasonal Ryanair flights from the UK, so the transfer is short.
Often. Strong winds above 5 m/s blow for 40 to 50 percent of the time, so bring a windbreak for the beach.
Yes. The port is described as the third largest marina in France, which gives the resort a harbour front for boats and walks.
Saint-Cyprien is the beach resort, flat and modern. Collioure is a small Côte Vermeille town of about 2,800 people with a royal castle and a Fauve painting past, better as a day trip.
