Plouescat is a small Finistère resort with a sandy beach, a timber-framed market hall and the Keremma dune ridge nearby. Most homes have a garden and many sleep six or more. Few have a pool.
Plouescat has about 3,550 residents on 14.79 square km, and the town has a seaside resort with a sandy beach, a casino and a large campsite. The centre has Les Halles, a timber-framed market hall listed as a historic monument since 1915, and a church tower of 58 metres, the tallest in Pays Léon after the one at Saint-Pol. Local land is farmed for artichokes, onions and cauliflowers. The coast path, the GR 34, follows 13 km of Plouescat shoreline from the Porsguen jetty. The homes sit close together, mostly with a garden and over half with a fireplace, and many are on the large side. For evenings out, the casino by the resort is the obvious option.
About 12 miles away and a drive of around 20 minutes, reached by bus line 925 in under half an hour too.
The largest dune ridge in Brittany, 5 km long and up to 1,000 m wide, with a visitor house for walking and dune history.
The commune that borders Plouescat to the east, close enough for a change of village on a short drive.
The seat of the arrondissement that Plouescat belongs to, and a sensible day out by car.
Brest Bretagne Airport is about 24 miles away, a drive of around 35 minutes. Roscoff is a drive of around 20 minutes. Buses run from the airport on lines 921 and 925, but the trip takes over two hours, so a car is the practical choice for a house stay.
Plouescat is a beach resort with a casino and a large campsite, so expect it to be liveliest in summer and quieter at other times. Walking the GR 34 coast path and the Keremma dunes works in any month. Check opening times of the dune house and of anything seasonal before an off-season visit.
