Mikkeli is a lakeside town on Lake Saimaa, and these homes are scattered around it, each with its own sauna. Nearly all have a fireplace. They are spread over a wide area, so check each address and plan on driving.
Mikkeli is a town of about 51,000 people on a bay of Lake Saimaa, 230 km north-east of Helsinki and 100 km west of Savonlinna. The homes are not clustered in the centre but spread over roughly 30 km around it, in lakeland country. Every one has a sauna, nearly all have a fireplace, none has a pool, and most sleep four to six, with a few much larger. In town, the market square is the largest in Eastern Finland, and Marshal Mannerheim's salon carriage stands in a siding by the station. Naisvuori tower gives views over the town. In summer the centre has terraces, and Saimaa cruises leave from the harbour. In winter the city is quiet.
The salon carriage at the station can be viewed from outside year-round, free. The Infantry Museum covers the Civil, Winter, Continuation and Lapland Wars.

Summer is the season, with terraces open in the centre, swimming, paddling and Saimaa cruises on the lake and a big trotting weekend, the St Michel races, in mid-July. The market has flea markets on weekends and on Mikkelinpäivä, 29 September. Winter is quiet in town, though every home has a sauna and nearly all a fireplace, and the rock paintings can be viewed from the frozen lake.
