Nilsiä suits ski weeks at Tahko and summer lake stays, and every home here has a sauna. Tahko is about 70 km north of Kuopio, so plan on a car, and not every home has Wi-Fi.
Nilsiä is a small town in North Savo that joined Kuopio in 2013, and it is still the commercial centre of the Northeast Savo area, with services on a par with a larger town. Tahko, the resort, has 24 slopes, the longest 1.2 km, the largest in eastern Finland, and in summer an 18-hole golf course, a bike park and what is described as Finland's longest zipline. Our homes sit north of Nilsiä, spread over a few kilometres, mostly two-bedroom homes for around six. The sauna is a given. Wi-Fi is not, so check the listing if you need to work. Evenings are sauna and fireplace, or après-ski at Pehkubar. Out of season the roads are empty and the lakes are the draw, with fishing and a marina on Syväri.
