Løgstør is a quiet fjord-side town with a harbour, a historic canal and a rocky town beach, and it suits families. Aalborg is 47 km east, and the fjord around the town is very shallow, with no surf beach.
Løgstør is a town of nearly 4,000 people on the Limfjord in Vesthimmerland, 47 km west of Aalborg. Its motto is mussel town, and its history is herring markets and a harbour too shallow to attract many ships. Frederik VII's Canal, 4.4 km long, opened in 1861 so vessels could bypass the shallows and closed to shipping in 1913; the old canal officers' houses at each end and the renovated swing bridge remain, and the main building houses the Limfjord Museum. The town has a neo-Gothic brick church from 1893 and a lighthouse near the harbour. The town beach is rocky. Our homes are scattered along about ten kilometres of shore and countryside around the town, mostly with three bedrooms and room for around six, nearly all with a fireplace and none with a pool.
Island about 10 km from Løgstør with deer, fallow deer and seals, reached by ferry from Rønbjerg Harbour.
City 47 km east of Løgstør, with its own airport about 50 minutes from the town by car.
Bridge over the fjord built in 1942, linking the area near Tolstrup with the town of Aggersund.
Aalborg airport is about 53 km away, a drive of around 50 minutes. A car is practically essential: the bus involves a change and takes about an hour and a half, and the homes are spread out along the shore.
Summer is the season for the harbour, the old canal and a trip out to Livø on the ferry from Rønbjerg Harbour. Nearly all homes here have a fireplace, which helps in the cooler months. Check ferry timetables and the Limfjord Museum's opening times before an off-season visit.
A 4.4 km canal between Løgstør and Lendrup, opened in 1861 so ships could avoid the shallow fjord. It was in use until 1913. The former canal officers' houses and a renovated swing bridge remain, and the Limfjord Museum is in the main building.
Yes, a rocky one at the town, and the fjord is very shallow. If a long sandy beach is your priority, look elsewhere on the coast. Løgstør is more about the harbour and the canal than the beach.
About 53 km, close to 50 minutes by car. Aalborg city is 47 km east of the town. Public transport means a change and around an hour and a half, so most visitors drive.
Yes. Livø lies about 10 km from Løgstør and is reached by ferry from Rønbjerg Harbour. The island has deer, fallow deer and seals, and a seal sanctuary at the tip of Livø Tap.
Mussels, as its motto is mussel town, along with herring markets in the 16th century and the canal. It is a small town with a neo-Gothic church from 1893 and the Løgstør Grunde lighthouse of 1908 by the harbour.
