Dramalj suits families wanting a small village next to Crikvenica, about 40 km south of Rijeka. Rijeka airport is about a 25 minute drive from Crikvenica, and Crikvenica next door has been a resort since the 19th century. The trade-off is that UK flights are thin: the airport's only listed London route is a seasonal Ryanair service from Stansted.
Dramalj is one of four settlements in the municipality of Crikvenica and had 1,366 residents at the 2021 census. Crikvenica is the largest settlement on the Vinodol coast, and growth has joined it to neighbouring Selce, so this coast reads as a run of connected small towns. Tourism began here in the 19th century, with a harbour in 1877, a bathing beach in 1888 and a first hotel in 1891. Our homes sit in a tight cluster, mostly one-bedroom places for around four, almost all air-conditioned, with over half having a garden and about a fifth a private pool. Few sleep more than eight. Bad weather can bite: in September 2017 overflowing streams flooded the town and Selce.
The largest settlement on the Vinodol coast, with a harbour built in 1877 and official health resort status since 1906.
The neighbouring town; urban growth over the last twenty years has merged it with Crikvenica into one built-up stretch.
Reached across the 1,430 m Krk Bridge, open since 1980; Rijeka airport is on the island, about 24 km from Crikvenica.
Offered as a day trip from Crikvenica, alongside day trips by boat to the islands of Rab and Krk.
Rijeka Airport is on Krk near Omišalj, about 24 km or 25 minutes from Crikvenica. Its only listed London route is a seasonal Ryanair flight from Stansted. Rijeka itself is about 40 km north. You will want a car for the villages along the coast.
The Ryanair route from Stansted to Rijeka is seasonal, so summer is the straightforward time to fly in. Weather on this coast deserves respect: a strong sirocco wind has flooded the town before, and in September 2017 overflowing streams flooded Crikvenica, Selce and Novi Vinodolski.
