About Trogir/Okrug Donji
Okrug Donji is a village on Čiovo, a narrow island about 15 km long that lies across the strait from Trogir. The Municipality of Okrug covers the island's western side, and the homes here sit close together, within a few kilometres of each other. Most have air conditioning and a garden, roughly half have a private pool, and a fair number sleep eight or more, so this suits larger groups as well as couples. Olives, figs, almonds, vines and citrus are the island's main crops. Trogir's old town is across the bridge, on an islet small enough to walk around in about 20 minutes.
Is Trogir/Okrug Donji right for you?
- Best for
- Groups wanting a pool, short airport transfers and Trogir old town nearby
- Not for you if
- You want empty roads in high season, when the bridges onto the island run short of capacity.

Getting to Trogir/Okrug Donji
Split airport lies on the west side of Kaštela Bay, about 6 km from Trogir, with seasonal flights from several London airports including Gatwick, Luton and Stansted. A bus links the airport with Trogir. Čiovo is reached over the bridge from Trogir, and a car is useful for the beaches.
When to go to Trogir/Okrug Donji
High season is the pinch point: tourism traffic left the 1964 bridge route to Čiovo with severe capacity shortages, which is why a second, bascule bridge opened in 2018. Most London flights to Split are seasonal, so shoulder months depend on your dates. In July and August, allow extra time for the crossing onto the island.

Is Okrug Donji on an island?
Yes. Okrug Donji is a village on Čiovo, an island about 15 km long and up to 3.5 km wide. A bridge has linked the island to Trogir since 1964, and Trogir is bridged to the mainland.
Is Trogir old town easy to reach from Okrug Donji?
Yes. Trogir's old town sits on its own small island between the mainland and Čiovo, with bridges to both sides, so Čiovo villages are a short hop away. The old town itself can be walked in about 20 minutes.
Is traffic a problem in Okrug Donji?
Yes, in high season. Traffic from tourism caused severe capacity shortages on the old bridge route onto Čiovo, so in July 2018 a new bascule bridge opened, linking the island directly to the mainland.
Which airport for Okrug Donji?
Split airport, which is about 6 km from Trogir. It has seasonal flights from several London airports, so check your dates, and a regular bus runs between the airport, Trogir and Split.
