About Primošten
Primošten began as a fortified islet. During the Ottoman advance of 1542 it was reached by drawbridge, and a causeway later replaced it; the name comes from a verb meaning to bridge. The old town now sits on the peninsula, with the Church of St George, built in 1485, on the hilltop above a graveyard with sea views. Raduča is the largest beach, and Mala Raduča sits in the centre next to the promenade and restaurants. Large vineyards cover the hills, and a photograph of them hung at the UN centre in New York. The homes are grouped close to the town, mostly with a pool and air conditioning, and some sleep large parties. Out of season the town falls back to its permanent population of around 1,500.
