About Podstrana
Podstrana is a municipality of 10,403 people on the coast next to Split, covering 11.7 square kilometres and made up of ten settlements, the largest of which is Sita. It is a fairly rural suburb, and its growth is recent: the population was 933 in 1961. Peach growing was the traditional trade before tourism took over. The coast runs for about 6 km, and a white flag is flown for clean sea at Strožanac. Our homes are spread over a couple of kilometres of the municipality, so some are nearer the sea and some higher up. They are mostly air-conditioned homes for four or five, most with a garden and a good number with a pool, plus a few very large houses.

When to go to Podstrana
Podstrana has a hot-summer Mediterranean climate with very long sunshine hours, so July and August are hot. Winters are mild, with a January average around 8 degrees, and snow is unknown. Spring and autumn are described as ideal for sightseeing and outdoor activity. Most London flights to Split are seasonal, so winter links are thinner.

Podstrana villa holidays: questions answered
How far is Podstrana from Split?
About 8 km from downtown Split. Buses link the two, and by car the trip is short, which is why many guests treat Podstrana as a quieter base for the city.
Is Podstrana a village or a town?
Neither exactly. It is a municipality of 10,403 people made up of ten settlements, a fairly rural suburb of Split. Expect scattered neighbourhoods rather than one old centre.
Podstrana or Omiš for a villa stay?
Podstrana if you want to be close to Split, about 8 km away. Omiš is 25 km south-east of Split, where the Cetina meets the sea, with two fortresses and a corsair past, but it is a longer trip to the city.
Is Podstrana good in winter?
It is mild rather than lively. January averages around 8 degrees and snow is unknown. Expect a residential suburb, and plan on Split for most things to do indoors.
How long is the drive from Split Airport to Podstrana?
Around 27 minutes for roughly 27 km. The airport sits in Kaštela, on the far side of the city, so the route passes Split on the way.
