Sölden suits keen skiers, with glacier skiing that starts in October, weeks before the rest of the resort opens. Many of our homes have a sauna. It is a big resort where tourists outnumber residents, so expect a busy village rather than a quiet one.
Sölden sits at 1,368 metres in the Ötztal. About 3,100 people live in what is Austria's largest municipality by area, and tourists outnumber them, with more than two million overnight stays a year. Our homes are clustered around the village itself, mostly apartments and chalets for around five people, two bedrooms being typical, and many have a sauna. None has a pool. The ski area runs from about 1,350 to 3,250 metres, taking in the Rettenbach glacier and the Tiefenbachferner. Evenings are about après-ski at slope-side huts such as S'Finale and Panoramaalm, the latter with daily DJs. For 2026 to 2027 the whole resort is open from mid November to mid April, while the glacier runs from October to early May.
The 3,058 metre summit above the village, home to the 007 Elements Bond exhibition and a viewing platform, reached by the Gaislachkogelbahn.

At 1,930 metres in the same municipality, the highest parish in Austria, part of the Obergurgl-Hochgurgl ski area.
Small lake that Tirol's tourism page recommends for warm days, listed under swimming in and around Sölden.
Innsbruck is the nearest airport, about 83 km from Sölden. easyJet, British Airways and TUI list London routes there, several of them seasonal. By rail, alight at Ötztal station, about 40 minutes from Innsbruck, then take a valley bus. Buses run every half hour and ski buses are free, so a car is optional in winter.
Glacier skiing starts in October and runs to early May; for 2026 to 2027 the whole resort opens on 12 November and closes on 18 April. The first World Cup giant slalom races of the season are usually held on the Rettenbach glacier in late October. Summer is for walking: Tirol's page lists everything from a 2.7 km easy themed trail to the 246 km Ötztal Trek, and there is swimming at Piburger See.
Yes, on the glacier. For 2026 to 2027 glacier skiing runs from October to 2 May, while the whole resort opens on 12 November. The Rettenbach glacier also hosts the season-opening World Cup giant slalom, usually in late October.
Sölden if skiing is the point, because the lifts are in the village. Längenfeld is 14 km north at 1,179 metres and is better for the Aqua Dome thermal spa, so you would commute to the slopes.
Yes, mostly après-ski. S'Finale sits beside the slope and Panoramaalm has daily DJs. In a resort where tourists outnumber residents, the village stays lively through the season.
Yes, for walkers. Tirol's tourism page lists routes from a 2.7 km easy themed trail to the 246 km Ötztal Trek, plus the 007 Elements exhibition on Gaislachkogl and swimming at Piburger See.
A sauna is common but a pool is not: none of our homes in Sölden has a pool, while many have a sauna. Most are apartments or chalets for around five, with two bedrooms.
