The World's Best Villa Destinations: Where to Book Your Next Luxury Villa Holiday in 2025

From Mallorca to Bali, discover the world's best villa destinations for 2025. Practical tips, local insights, and expert advice for every type of traveller.

Why Your Next Holiday Should Be a Luxury Villa Stay

The best villa destinations don't just offer a place to sleep. They offer a way of life, even if only for a week. You wake up to your own pool, breakfast at whatever hour you choose, no queue for a sun lounger, and the kind of space that lets a family or group of friends actually breathe.

More and more travellers are choosing luxury villa holidays over five-star hotels, and it's not hard to see why. You get more room, more privacy, and often more character than any hotel corridor could offer. But with so many destinations to consider, where do you actually begin?

We've rounded up the villa destinations that consistently deliver. The ones our guests return to, the ones that suit different types of travellers, and the ones worth booking now before the best weeks disappear.

Mallorca: The Gold Standard for Mediterranean Villa Holidays

Mallorca has been drawing sun-seekers for decades, but the villa scene here has genuinely matured into something special. Forget the package-holiday reputation. The north and south-west of the island, particularly around Pollença, Deià, and Andratx, offer some of the most beautifully restored fincas and contemporary design villas in Europe.

Fly into Palma de Mallorca airport and you can be at a villa in the Tramuntana mountains within 45 minutes. The Serra de Tramuntana is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and staying within or near it means dramatic scenery, olive groves, and mountain views that are genuinely unlike anywhere else in the Med.

Best for families

Families tend to gravitate towards the south and east of the island. Villages like Cala d'Or and Porto Colom offer calm, shallow bays ideal for young children. Many villas in this area come with large private pools, games rooms, and enough outdoor space to keep everyone happy without leaving the property.

Best for couples

If you're after romance, head north. Deià is a small hilltop village beloved by artists and writers for generations. A villa here, perched above the coastline with a pool and an infinity view over the sea, is a seriously hard thing to top. Robert Graves lived here. You'll understand why immediately.

Fly into: Palma de Mallorca (PMI). Transfer times: 45 minutes to Pollença, 30 minutes to Andratx. Best local restaurants: Es Racó d'es Teix in Deià (two Michelin stars), La Fortaleza in Pollença.

Tuscany: Timeless, and Still Worth Every Penny

Yes, everyone goes to Tuscany. There's a reason for that.

The Chianti region between Florence and Siena remains one of the most satisfying places on earth to rent a private villa. Converted farmhouses with terracotta floors, cypress-lined driveways, and stone-walled gardens. You're ten minutes from wine estates, twenty from medieval hill towns, and two hours from the coast at Castiglione della Pescaia.

Tuscany suits groups particularly well. A six to eight-bedroom villa with a large kitchen and outdoor dining terrace becomes the perfect base for a multi-family or friends trip. Split the cost, share the cooking (or hire a private chef), and spend your days exploring at your own pace.

What to know before you book

July and August are peak season and genuinely hot. If you have the flexibility, late May, June, or September offer better driving temperatures, fewer visitors, and almost identical weather. The countryside is arguably more beautiful in early June when the sunflowers are out.

Fly into: Florence (FLR) or Pisa (PSA). Transfer times: 40-60 minutes to central Chianti. Don't miss: Ristorante Dievole at Dievole Wine Resort near Siena, and the San Miniato truffle market in November.

The Algarve: Portugal's Finest for All Budgets and Group Sizes

The Algarve has reinvented itself. It's no longer just a golfer's retreat or a British expat stronghold. The western Algarve around Luz, Sagres, and the Barlavento coast has developed a genuinely sophisticated villa offering, and with direct flights from most UK airports, it's incredibly accessible.

What makes the Algarve stand out is the range. You can find a sleek four-bedroom contemporary villa with a heated pool and sea views for a group of eight adults, or a more traditional Quinta inland for a multi-generational family holiday. Prices are notably more competitive than comparable villas in Mallorca or Tuscany, and the weather season runs from March through to November.

Best for multi-generational families

The Golden Triangle area around Vale do Lobo, Quinta do Lago, and Vilamoura has some of the best-equipped villas in southern Europe. They're close to excellent restaurants, beach clubs, and medical facilities, which matters when you're travelling with grandparents and young children.

Fly into: Faro (FAO). Transfer times: 20-40 minutes to most Algarve resorts. Local dining: À Terra at Bela Vista Hotel in Portimão (Michelin-starred), Vila Joya near Albufeira (two Michelin stars).

Bali: Asia's Most Compelling Villa Destination

Bali occupies its own category. The private villa culture here is extraordinary. You can rent a fully staffed four-bedroom villa with a dedicated butler, private chef, and infinity pool overlooking rice terraces for what you'd pay for a mid-range hotel room in the Maldives.

Seminyak and Canggu suit travellers who want access to great restaurants, beach clubs, and nightlife. Ubud suits those after something more peaceful. Cultural programmes, cooking classes, temple ceremonies, and yoga retreats are all woven into daily life there. Uluwatu, on the Bukit Peninsula, has some of the most dramatic clifftop villas on the island.

Practical things to know

Fly into Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) in Denpasar. Transfer times vary considerably: 20 minutes to Seminyak, 90 minutes to Ubud. The wet season runs from October to March, so most travellers aim for May through September. A 14-night minimum makes more sense here than a week given the travel time from the UK.

Best for: Couples seeking romance, groups of friends, wellness travellers. Less ideal for very young children unless your villa has strong safety features around the pool area.

The Greek Islands: Reliable, Beautiful, and Endlessly Varied

Greece offers so much variety that it almost needs a guide of its own. Corfu, Lefkada, Zakynthos, Kefalonia, Crete, Santorini, Mykonos. Each island has its own character, its own architecture, and its own rhythm.

For a villa holiday in Greece, Lefkada is quietly one of the best choices. It's connected to the mainland by bridge, which keeps prices more reasonable, but the sailing, the white-sand beaches at Porto Katsiki and Egremni, and the villa offering are all genuinely world-class. Corfu's north-east coast, around Kassiopi and Agni, is where you'll find some of the most characterful estate villas with private boat moorings.

Santorini vs Mykonos: which is better for a villa?

Santorini suits couples who want that iconic view, candlelit dinners, and a more romantic pace. But be aware that Oia in high season is extremely busy, and the island's caldera-facing villas book up 12 months in advance for July and August. Mykonos suits groups looking for a balance of beach time and social energy. Villa prices on both islands reflect their status, so go in early June or late September for better availability.

Fly into: Corfu (CFU), Preveza for Lefkada (PVK), Heraklion for Crete (HER), Thira for Santorini (JTR). Best for: Couples and groups of friends primarily; families work well in Corfu and Lefkada.

How to Choose the Right Villa Destination for Your Group

The destination is only half the decision. The villa itself, its location within the destination, and the time of year all matter equally.

For families with children under ten, prioritise villas with fenced pools, shallow beach access, and proximity to supermarkets. Tuscany, the Algarve, and Mallorca all tick this box well. For couples or small groups of adults, the villa's setting and design tend to matter more than practical amenities. A stunning Balinese rice terrace view or a Santorini sunset terrace can define an entire trip.

Groups of eight or more should think carefully about villa layout. Open-plan living spaces, multiple dining areas, and enough bathrooms to prevent a morning bottleneck make a real difference over a two-week stay. The Algarve and Tuscany have particularly strong inventory for larger groups.

When to Book and What to Expect

The best villas in the most popular weeks fill up fast. For July and August in Mallorca, Tuscany, or the Greek Islands, serious enquiries start in January. For shoulder season travel, you'll have more flexibility, but even October in Tuscany or May in Mallorca gets competitive for the premium properties.

At Trusted Villas, every property on our platform has been personally reviewed. That means no surprises on arrival, no photos that don't match reality, and a concierge team who can arrange everything from airport transfers and private chefs to boat hire and restaurant reservations before you land.
