Semione suits couples wanting a small heritage-listed village in the lower Blenio valley of Ticino, with a fireplace to sit by. The ruined Castello di Serravalle is a heritage site of national significance. With only around 330 residents, most errands mean the hourly bus to Biasca, eight minutes away.
Semione is a village of around 330 people at 389 metres, now part of the municipality of Serravalle, which takes its name from the castle here. The ruins of the Castello di Serravalle are a heritage site of national significance, and so are the parish church of S. Maria Assunta with its ossuary and the oratory of S. Maria Bambina at Navone. Both Semione and Navone are on the inventory of Swiss heritage sites. The homes are close together, sleep two to six and mostly have a fireplace. Many residents work in Biasca or Bellinzona, and evenings are quiet.
Eight minutes away on the hourly 132 bus, and the station where trains from Milan Malpensa airport arrive.
Another village of Serravalle, with the parish church of San Martino and the Casa dei Pagani, a castle built into a cave.
The third village of Serravalle, with the church of San Secondo and, in the hamlet of Motto di Dongio, the church of San Pietro.
Fly to Milan Malpensa and take the train from the airport to Biasca. From there the hourly bus 132 between Biasca and Semione takes about eight minutes, and a taxi around six. A car helps for exploring the valley but is not essential.
For its size, very much so. The ruined Castello di Serravalle, the parish church of S. Maria Assunta with its ossuary and the oratory of S. Maria Bambina at Navone are all nationally significant, and the village is on the Swiss heritage inventory.
Bus line 132 runs hourly from Semione's Municipio stop to the centre of Biasca, taking about eight minutes. A taxi covers the same trip in around six minutes.
It suits couples well. Most homes here sleep four or fewer and most have a fireplace, and the village of around 330 people is quiet; pools are not a feature, so check each listing for what each home offers.
Both villages belong to Serravalle in the lower Blenio valley. Semione has the castle ruins and the heritage-listed village; Malvaglia has the primary school, a kindergarten and the Casa dei Pagani cave castle.
