About Minusio
Minusio lies about 2 km east of Locarno on Lake Maggiore at 246 m, with around 7,400 residents, and it has its own railway station. A flat lakeside path runs from Minusio through Muralto into Locarno, suitable for walks all year. Our homes are close together, within about a kilometre of one another. Some have a private pool, most have a garden, and they mostly sleep around four. San Quirico church has frescoes from the 13th to 16th centuries, and the Elisarion is a cultural centre. For evenings out, Locarno's Piazza Grande, with its Thursday market, is a walk or short train ride away.
Is Minusio right for you?
- Best for

Minusio villa holidays: questions answered
Is Minusio close to Locarno?
Yes, about 2 km east of the centre. A flat lakeside path runs from Minusio through Muralto to Locarno, and trains stop at Minusio station. It is easy to walk or cycle into town.
Is Minusio quiet?
Mostly yes. It is a suburban community within the Locarno agglomeration rather than a resort, and the big summer festivals take place on Piazza Grande in Locarno itself, about 2 km west.
Is Minusio busy during the Locarno Film Festival?
Locarno is, since the festival takes over Piazza Grande each August. Minusio is a short walk or train ride away, so you can stay a little apart from the Piazza and still reach the screenings.
Do guests in Minusio get free public transport in Ticino?
Overnight guests in hotels, hostels or campsites get a Ticino Ticket with free public transport across Ticino. Check whether your type of stay qualifies before counting on it.
Can you swim in the lake at Minusio?
Locarno has Lido Locarno and freely accessible bathing areas on the shore, and Ascona has its own lido. Check the signs on the day for the access point you plan to use.
