Leontica suits families and skiers wanting a small Blenio valley village below the Nara ski area, in Italian-speaking Ticino. Most homes sleep four to six and most have a fireplace. In summer the lifts run only for events, and a car makes life much easier.
Leontica is a Blenio valley village, first recorded in 1204 and home to fewer than 300 people in 2000. Since 2004 it has been part of the municipality of Acquarossa. Comprovasco, the lower part of the old Leontica municipality, lies on the valley floor and is a key post bus hub. Above the village, the Nara ski area spreads across a wide, sunny valley between about 1,400 and 2,200 metres, with chair and drag lifts, a children's lift, a ski school, sledging runs and a snow park. Evenings are quiet. The homes are in the village and mostly sleep four to six, and most have a fireplace; check each listing.
A Romanesque church with frescoes painted nearly 1,000 years ago, a popular outing near the Nara slopes.
A resort village at the foot of the pyramid-shaped Sosto, where the valley trail from Biasca ends, with the Cà da Rivöi museum.
The pass that leads from the Blenio valley over to Disentis/Sedrun.
Comprovasco, on the valley floor below Leontica, is a key post bus hub for Acquarossa and the Blenio valley. A car makes life much easier, especially for reaching the Nara ski area and the villages higher up the valley.
Winter is the main season on the Nara slopes, with skiing, sledging and snowshoe trails. In summer the lifts open only during events and close in bad weather, so walkers should check before relying on them. Four marked historic trails based on Acquarossa cover the valley on foot.
Yes. The Nara ski area sits directly above the village, between about 1,400 and 2,200 metres, with around 30 km of pistes, chair and drag lifts, a children's lift, a ski school and a snow park.
For a winter family week, it works well. Nara has a children's lift, a ski school and sledging runs, and most homes here sleep four to six. Expect a quiet village rather than entertainment laid on.
Only during events. In summer the Nara lifts open just for those occasions and close in bad weather, so check the timetable before planning a hike or bike day around them.
Mostly churches and walks. The Romanesque church of San Carlo di Negrentino has frescoes nearly 1,000 years old, four marked historic trails run from Acquarossa, and the bare Greina plateau lies within the wider valley.
