Caslano is a small Italian-speaking village on Lake Lugano with a public lido, a lake boat landing and trains to Lugano. Homes are mostly small, often with a garden, and about half have a pool.
Caslano sits at 272 metres on the right bank of the Magliasina river where it meets Lake Lugano, close to the Italian border. About 4,300 people live here, mostly Italian speakers, and the whole village is in the Inventory of Swiss Heritage Sites. Fishing and mining once drove the economy. The public lido, open from May to September, has a small beach, a springboard, a raft, beach volleyball and stand-up paddleboards, and bathing stops at 8 pm. In summer a boat between Lugano and Ponte Tresa calls at the village landing stage. Our homes sit in one cluster, mostly sleeping about four, and the railway station is around 1 km from the village centre.

Milan Malpensa works well for UK flights, about 58 minutes away by car. By train, Trenord runs hourly from Malpensa to Lugano, and the Lugano line then reaches Caslano in about 22 minutes. The station is around 1 km from the village, so a car is useful but not essential.
The lido is open from May to September and the Lugano to Ponte Tresa boat service runs in summer, so lake days belong to that window. Outside it the railway still runs, with trains every 15 minutes on weekday daytimes and every half hour otherwise, so Lugano stays within reach.
