Campo Blenio suits couples and small families who want a tiny Ticino mountain hamlet with beginner-friendly ski slopes. Homes are small, mostly one bedroom for up to four or five, and many have a garden. It is remote: by bus from Biasca the trip takes well over an hour.
Campo is a hamlet of under a hundred people at 1,215 metres, part of the municipality of Blenio since five municipalities merged in 2006. Its neighbours are Ghirone, Olivone and, over the cantonal border, Medel in Graubünden. The church of Santi Maurizio ed Agata is recorded from 1225. A ski lift has run here since 1964, and the slopes are gentle enough for learning, with a 4.5 km floodlit run and snowshoe and walking trails in the woods around. Our homes sit close together in and around the hamlet. Evenings are very quiet, with little beyond what you bring.
Neighbouring village close to the Greina, with a pinewood playpark, children's playground and summer food made from local farm produce.
Neighbouring village, merged with Campo into Blenio in 2006; buses from Biasca run up the valley via Olivone.
Rail town about 27 minutes away by car, served by S50 trains from Milan Malpensa airport.
Fly to Milan Malpensa and take the S50 train to Biasca, or drive. From Biasca it is about 27 minutes to Campo by car; buses run via Olivone but take around an hour and three quarters. You will want a car here for shopping and outings.
Winter brings beginner skiing on Campo's lift, the floodlit run, and snowshoe trails through the woods. Summer is for walking in the woods, and in neighbouring Ghirone, a stone's throw from the Greina, the pinewood playpark serves dishes made from local farm produce.
Yes. The slopes, run by a local cooperative, are described as particularly suitable for learning to ski and snowboard, and there is a 4.5 km floodlit slope. Snowshoe and walking trails through the woods give non-skiers plenty to do as well.
It is possible but slow. Take the train to Biasca, then the bus up the valley via Olivone; the whole bus leg takes around an hour and three quarters, against about 27 minutes by car.
For young families, it can be. Homes have space for four or five, most have a garden, the ski slopes suit learners, and the Pineta Saracino playpark in nearby Ghirone has a large playground and a bar.
