Aurigeno suits couples and small families who want a heritage-listed Maggia valley village, with gardens and a signposted cycle route. It was first recorded in 1276 and lies at about 341 metres. None of the homes has a pool and evenings are quiet, so plan on driving out for most meals.
Aurigeno sits at about 341 metres in the Vallemaggia district of Ticino, a village first recorded in 1276 as Urigeno. Since 2004 it has been part of the municipality of Maggia, which also takes in Moghegno, Someo and Giumaglio. The entire village, like Moghegno and Someo, is on the Inventory of Swiss Heritage Sites. The homes are grouped around the village and nearby hamlets, mostly sized for two to four, and most have a garden, with a fireplace in about half. The signposted cycle route up the valley follows dirt tracks between Gordevio and Aurigeno. Evenings are quiet, so stock up before you arrive.
