Champéry suits ski and bike stays in a Valais village, with the gondola into the Portes du Soleil and a railway line to Aigle. Homes are mostly small, so groups should check sleeping numbers.
Champéry is the gateway village to the Portes du Soleil, a ski area linking twelve resorts in Switzerland and France. The village base is at 1,050 metres, and the Croix-de-Culet gondola and Grand-Paradis chairlift lift you towards slopes that reach 2,277 metres. The Dents du Midi dominate the view. First mentioned in 1286, Champéry became a founding village of the Portes du Soleil in 1969. The homes are fairly close together around the village. Most are small, with one or two bedrooms and room for two to five, though a few sleep very large groups, and about a third have a sauna. There are no private pools. In summer, hiking trails towards the Val d'Illiez and the Dents du Midi start at the village square.

Winter means skiing across the Portes du Soleil, with the steep Pas de Chavanette, known as the Swiss Wall, part of the same area.
