Sant Jordi suits golfers and couples who want a pool among olive and carob groves, with a golf course designed by Bernhard Langer. It is a small inland farming village, so the beach means a drive. Most homes here have a private pool and air conditioning, and typically two bedrooms.
Sant Jordi is a village of around 1,250 people in the middle of the Baix Maestrat, on rolling land between the Vinaròs plain and the first foothills of the Maestrat. It sits at 175 metres among olive, carob and almond groves, with citrus spreading. Farming still leads the economy, and the tourism comes from golf: Panorámica, laid out over 80 hectares of carob and olive land, has an island green on its fifth hole. Work on the parish church of Sant Jaume began in 1735 and its bell tower was finished in 1759, and a sculpture park sits in the El Bovalar pine wood. The homes are outside the village itself, out in the countryside around Sant Jordi rather than in its streets.
A working fishing town on the coast with a gravel urban beach, an artichoke with its own Designation of Origin and a railway station.
The neighbouring village holds the shrine of the Virgen de la Salud, where Sant Jordi goes on pilgrimage each 1 May with communal rice cooking.
Castellón is the nearest airport, with Valencia, Reus and Barcelona as alternatives. The N-232 runs through the municipality, and the city of Castellón is about 82 km away. Public transport from any of these airports takes over three hours, so hire a car.
Yes. Panorámica is a course designed by Bernhard Langer, with an island green on its fifth hole, set on an 80-hectare estate of carob and olive trees in Sant Jordi. Golf is the village's main source of tourism, alongside farming.
Not on it. The village is inland on rolling farmland between the Vinaròs plain and the Maestrat foothills, so plan on driving to the coast at Benicarló or nearby. Most homes have a private pool for the days in between.
Castellón is the closest airport. Valencia, Reus and Barcelona also serve the area, but from any of them public transport takes over three hours, so book a hire car with your flight.
The main fiestas are for Sant Jaume, starting on 25 July. The village also marks Sant Antoni on 17 January, its patron Sant Jordi on 23 April, and a pilgrimage with communal rice cooking to Traiguera on 1 May.
