L'Ametlla de Mar suits big groups who want a large villa with a pool near a fishing port and small coves. The coves are tiny, and Reus airport has mostly seasonal UK flights.
L'Ametlla de Mar is a fishing town of around 7,400 people, home to Catalonia's principal tuna-fishing fleet and a fish auction at the fishermen's co-operative every afternoon. Its 16 km of coastline has about 30 bays and beaches, fine white sand or pebbles under pine trees, and clear water thanks to seagrass. There are 24 coves, small ones such as Calafató, about 30 metres long. Our homes are unusual for this coast: most are big houses for eight or more, typically with four bedrooms and nearly all with a pool, spread over about three kilometres. Local cooking is seafood and rice, with fideuada, suquet and grilled fish typical, and the beaches are small coves rather than long strands.
Golden-sand cove 55 metres long with lifeguard, bars and sun lounger rental, on the edge of the Tres Calas estate.
Tiny golden-sand cove about 30 metres long with showers and toilets, easy on foot and about 1 km from Port de Calafat marina.
Natural park of wetlands and rice fields with over 300 bird species; Deltebre is about 25 minutes away by road.
Twelfth-century castle that is among the town's sights, alongside the Popular Ceramics Museum.
Reus is the nearest airport, around 35 km and 33 minutes by road, with seasonal easyJet, Jet2 and Ryanair flights from London. Public transport means a bus and train, about an hour and three quarters. With homes spread across the area and coves to reach, hire a car; the AP-7 is the main road.
Summer suits the coves, which have lifeguards and bars at the busier ones such as Cala Forn, where occupancy is high. The Virgen Candelaria fiestas fall in the first week of February. Check out-of-season opening dates for restaurants and beach services.

Both. The town's listing describes fine white sand or pebbly beaches surrounded by pine trees. Calafató and Cala Forn are golden sand, only about 30 and 55 metres long, and Cala Forn has high occupancy.
