Wemeldinge is a village in Zuid-Beveland, Zeeland, inside the Eastern Scheldt national park and about 15 minutes by car from Goes. It suits quiet weeks by the estuary with Middelburg and Zierikzee about half an hour away. None of the homes here has a pool.
Wemeldinge, in the municipality of Kapelle, is the oldest village in Zuid-Beveland. It was first mentioned in 1222, grew up on small terps, which are artificial hills, and later spread towards the dike. It lies about 4 km northwest of Yerseke. There is a harbour, a church with a tower from around 1350 and a spire of 1611, and the De Hoop grist mill, built in 1866 and restored in the early 1980s. Our homes are in one cluster, mostly for two to four people, and most have a fireplace. Zuid-Beveland has orchards, farming and oyster culture. Evenings are village-quiet, and Goes is the nearest town for anything bigger.

Amsterdam is about two hours by car, roughly 160 km. By public transport, an hourly train runs from Amsterdam Centraal to Goes in about two hours 40 minutes, then a local bus to Wemeldinge takes around 12 minutes, though it runs only every two hours. A car is easier for the rest of the area.
Spring brings blossom to the Zak van Zuid-Beveland, a large orchard area, and a historic steam train runs between Goes and Hoedekenskerke. In winter most homes have a fireplace, which helps, but the village is very quiet, so check shop and restaurant hours before you go.
