About Heythuysen
Heythuysen is a town of about 6,500 people in the municipality of Leudal, in the south-east of the Netherlands; its name means houses on the heath. First recorded in 1383, it lay on the old road from Venlo to Antwerp and was a border town of the County of Horne. The church of St Nicolaas was built shortly after 1504 and gained its Gothic Revival tower in 1847, and the Sint Antoniusmolen windmill still stands. A former monastery of the White Fathers is now a retirement home. Evenings are low-key, and Grand Café Tom Tom is one place to head for a drink. The homes are just outside town.
