Bagni di Lucca is a spa valley town on the Lima river, 25 minutes by train from Lucca, with homes scattered through its hamlets. Most have a private pool and a fireplace, but a car is needed.
Bagni di Lucca sits in the valley of the Lima, a tributary of the Serchio, at about 150 m, and is spread over 27 named hamlets including Fornoli, Ponte a Serraglio and Bagni Caldi. The springs were most famous in the 19th century, when the town was a summer residence of the court of Napoleon and his sister Elisa Baciocchi, and the English left a Protestant church, now a library, and a small cemetery. Robert and Elizabeth Barrett Browning spent much time in the town. The Ponte delle Catene is a 19th-century suspension bridge. Homes lie around the valley rather than in one centre, often with a pool, a garden and a fireplace, and typically sleeping about six.

Yes. The Bernabò baths on the Colle di Corsena slope still run: Elisa Baciocchi built the present building in 1810, and it was restored in 2006. It offers balneotherapy, mud treatments and a steam grotto.
It is, provided you have a car. Most homes here have a private pool, and many also have a fireplace, though they are scattered across a valley with 27 named hamlets rather than clustered in one spot.

For the springs. The resort peaked in the 19th century and drew foreign visitors, including the poets Robert and Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Their Protestant church, now a library, and a small English cemetery remain.
