Spoltore suits a large group wanting space close to Pescara, about 10 minutes by car from its airport. Choice is very small, and the beach and the nightlife are in Pescara, so expect to drive.
Spoltore is a town of about 17,000 people at 185 metres, spread across a dozen hamlets such as Santa Teresa, Villa Raspa and Caprara d'Abruzzo, about 4 miles by road from Pescara. It was absorbed into Pescara in 1928 and split off again in 1947, and a planned merger with Pescara and Montesilvano has been pushed back more than once. What we offer here sleeps up to ten, with a garden and air conditioning. Spoltore itself is quiet in the evening. Pescara has the sandy beach and the evening stroll along the seafront.
Abruzzo Airport at Pescara, served by Ryanair from London Stansted, is about 10 minutes by car. Rome is roughly two hours away by motorway. Pescara Centrale is the main station. You will want a car.
Only a few miles; the centre of Pescara is about 4 miles by road. Its coast is low and sandy, and the beach runs without a break north and south of the river.
Not yet. Spoltore is a separate comune, although it was joined to Pescara between 1928 and 1947. Residents narrowly approved a merger with Pescara and Montesilvano in a referendum, but the merger date has been moved back several times.
Pescara Jazz, founded in 1969 as Italy's first summer festival devoted to jazz. Otherwise evenings centre on the seafront, the old quarter of Pescara Vecchia and the streets round the covered market in piazza Muzii.
