Balatonmáriafürdő is a village on the flat southern shore of Lake Balaton in Somogy County, with 677 residents in 2017 spread over 26.8 square kilometres and a marina. Balaton is 78 km long and 14 km wide at most, with an average depth of about 3.3 m. Our homes are tightly grouped, mostly houses with a garden, around half with a pool and half with air conditioning, typically two bedrooms for five. The M7 motorway serves the village, about 166 km from Budapest. Peak season runs June to the end of August, and the lake freezes in winter.

Getting to Balatonmariafurdo

Budapest Airport is the realistic gateway, around 184 km and two hours by road. Trains from Budapest-Kelenföld reach the south shore, but with changes the journey runs over four hours, so hire a car at the airport. The M7 motorway serves the village.

When to go to Balatonmariafurdo

Peak tourist season on Balaton runs from June to the end of August, and the lake averages 25 °C in summer. In winter it freezes over, and visitors ice-fish, skate, sledge or ice-sail. We could not confirm which restaurants, boats and beach services run outside high summer, so check before an off-season visit.
