Damp is a purpose-built Baltic resort on the Schwansen peninsula in Schleswig-Holstein, with a marina and a sand beach. Homes here are small, mostly for two to five people, and private pools are not part of the offer. It is a resort rather than an old village, so expect to drive for sights.
Damp lies directly on the Baltic coast, about 16 km north-east of Eckernförde, in the strip of land between the Eckernförder Bucht and the Schlei. Its holiday centre was planned from 1968 under the name Damp 2000 and became Ostseebad Damp in the mid-1980s, so the centre is a resort complex and not a historic village. The harbour has a marina, and a sea-rescue station has been based there since 1971. The resort also has clinics, a leisure pool called the Entdeckerbad and an old ship, the Albatros, resting on the sand beach. Villages such as Dorotheenthal and Pommerby belong to the same municipality. The homes sit close together near the resort, mostly one-bedroom places for two to four people, with a garden for some. Outside summer the place is quiet, so check what is open.

On the Eckernförder Bucht, whose shores are mostly wooded with broadleaf trees, a 30-metre-high, 3.6 km cliff near Altenhof.
Hamburg Airport is about 135 km away, a drive of around an hour and twenty-five minutes. Public transport involves a bus towards Kiel and then the 711 bus from Eckernförde to Damp, nearly four hours in all, so a car is the practical choice.
Most visitors come in the warmer months, when the beach and marina are in use and the resort is at its busiest. In the colder months it is much quieter, and some restaurants, shops and leisure facilities may keep shorter hours, so check opening times before booking an off-season stay.
A resort. Planning for Damp's holiday centre began in 1968, and it was renamed Ostseebad Damp in the mid-1980s. The wider municipality also includes small villages such as Dorotheenthal and Pommerby.
Yes. Damp has a sand beach on the Baltic, and the historic ship Albatros rests on it. Check how far each home is from the shore, as the resort is built around the coast.
About 16 km. Eckernförde sits at the western end of the Eckernförder Bucht and has its own harbour and seaside resort, and the 711 bus links it with Damp.
No, private pools are not part of the offer here. The homes are small, sleeping up to about five, and a minority have a garden, a fireplace or a sauna.
