Pleubian suits walkers and nature lovers who want the Sillon de Talbert, a 3 km spit of sand and pebbles, close at hand. Most homes have a garden and many an open fire, but none has a pool. Swimming depends on the tide, and you will need a car.
Pleubian is a Côtes-d'Armor commune of around 2,400 people. From its north-east tip, at the end of the rocky Lézardrieux peninsula, the Sillon de Talbert runs out to sea, a narrow spit of sand and pebbles about 3.2 km long, shaped by currents from the Trieux and the Jaudy and protected as a regional nature reserve. Little terns and curlews use it, and people gather clams and shrimp on the foreshore. Seaweed collected from the shore is spread on the nearby cauliflower fields. Pors Rand, about 500 m from the spit, is a north-facing beach of very fine sand with the Héaux de Bréhat lighthouse in view. The homes are grouped fairly close together.
The spit itself, reached from the hamlet of l'Armor; a marked path protects its sandy base, and a breach cuts it off at high tide.
Lighthouse on the Épées de Tréguier reefs about 3 km north of the Sillon, marking the western entrance to the Baie de Saint-Brieuc.
The Sillon and Pors Rand beach both lie out at l'Armor on Pleubian's north-east tip, where the GR34 coast path passes, so bring or hire a car. Check the tide before setting out for the Sillon, because high water blocks the crossing.
Seaweed is spread on the fields in April and again in autumn, and the foreshore draws shellfish gatherers. At Pors Rand there are no lifeguards, dogs are banned from mid-June to mid-September, and swimming is best from mid to high tide.

Best from mid to high tide. The sand is very fine, and there are toilets, a shower and a play area, but no lifeguards, and dogs are banned from 15 June to 15 September.
Not at high tide, when a breach in the spit blocks the way. Dogs must stay on a lead, and a marked path across the sandy base keeps walkers off the plants. Opening times are posted at the Maison du Sillon.
