Ringkøbing suits families who want an old fjord-side market town with a North Sea beach resort a short drive away. Most of our homes are not in the town but at Søndervig, on the North Sea coast to the west. Some have a pool, many a sauna, and a fair share are large enough for eight or more.
Ringkøbing is a market town of about 9,800 on Ringkøbing Fjord, a shallow lagoon sheltered from the North Sea by the Holmsland Dunes. Its old streets mostly lead down to the fjord, and the church dates from the early 15th century, with a tower that is wider at the top than at the base. In the 17th century the channel to the sea began to move south with wind and tide, and the town was cut off from the sea until the early 20th century. Our homes are not in the town. Their middle sits at Søndervig, a seaside resort with a wide beach of fine sand, high dunes and a pedestrian street of shops and cafés, and they spread over about five kilometres there.
Seaside resort on the North Sea west of Ringkøbing, with a wide sandy beach and the Lalandia Aquadome close by; most of our homes are here.
Fishing port at the canal linking the fjord to the North Sea, further south along the coast from Søndervig.
An attraction north of town, signposted and reachable on foot from the station, with texts in Danish, English and German; allow at least two hours.
A bird reserve of about 2,200 hectares at the southern end of the fjord, normally closed to the public, with exceptions usually on Sunday mornings.
Fly to Billund, which has British Airways from Heathrow and Norwegian from Gatwick. Ringkøbing has a station on the Esbjerg to Struer line, with trains to Skjern and Holstebro, but a car is the simpler way to reach homes at Søndervig.
Søndervig's sand sculpture festival runs just outside the resort from May to October, with themes that change each year. Lifeguards patrol Søndervig beach at certain times in peak season, and the coast can bring brisk winds and big waves. Tipperne, the bird reserve at the south end of the fjord, is normally closed to the public, with exceptions usually on Sunday mornings.
No. Ringkøbing lies on Ringkøbing Fjord, a shallow lagoon, and the Holmsland Dunes separate it from the North Sea. Søndervig, the beach resort on the coast to the west, is where most of our homes are.
Mostly at Søndervig, on the North Sea coast, not in the town. Søndervig is a seaside resort west of Ringkøbing whose wide sandy beach is one of the most visited on that coast. Check the map before booking if you want the old centre.
Pick Ringkøbing for an old market town with a 15th-century church and the fjord, and Hvide Sande for a working fishing harbour at the canal to the sea. Most of our Ringkøbing homes are at Søndervig, on the coast north of Hvide Sande.
Billund. British Airways flies there from Heathrow and Norwegian from Gatwick. Ringkøbing has its own station on the Esbjerg to Struer line, but a car is the easier way to reach the homes at Søndervig.
Walk the old streets down to the fjord, see the early 15th-century church, or spend at least two hours at Naturkraft, north of town. Tipperne, a bird reserve at the south end of the fjord, is normally closed to the public.
