Oksbøl suits families and groups wanting a home with a sauna about 15 minutes' drive from Blåvand's broad white beaches. It is a small inland town of under three thousand people, so a car is needed for the beach and much of the area.
Oksbøl is a small town of under three thousand people in Varde Municipality, 14 km west of Varde and 23 km north-west of Esbjerg. The homes are spread around the area, over some ten kilometres, so check the map for each house. Most sleep about six with three bedrooms. Over half have a sauna, nearly all a fireplace, and a few have a pool. The town has two railway stations, Oksbøl and Baunhøj, on the Vestbanen line, and the FLUGT refugee museum, opened in 2022 on the site of a camp that held up to 37,000 German refugees after the Second World War. Blåvand, Vejers Strand and Henne Strand supply the beaches. Evenings in town are quiet, and off season the area empties.
About 15 minutes by car, with broad white beaches and Blåvands Huk, the western tip of Denmark, overlooking the Horns Rev wind farms.

National park of tidal flats running south from Blåvandshuk, where 10 to 12 million waterfowl pass each year.
Old town 14 km east, with a municipal charter from 1442, linked to Oksbøl by the Vestbanen railway.
Larger town 23 km south-east, at the end of the Vestbanen line from Nørre Nebel via Varde and Oksbøl.
Billund Airport is the practical choice, just under an hour by car from Oksbøl. Public transport from there is slow, about three hours forty by bus via Grindsted and Varde. Trains reach Oksbøl on the Vestbanen line from Varde, but a car is needed for Blåvand and most of the houses.
Summer is the main season on this coast, and the Tirpitz Museum at Blåvand stretches its hours to 09:00 to 19:00 from 1 July to 15 August, against 10:00 to 17:00 otherwise. Outside summer the coast is quiet and open to the wind, which suits walking and a house with a sauna and fireplace. Check opening times before you drive out.
About 15 minutes by car, around nine miles. Blåvand has the broad white beaches, so most visitors staying in Oksbøl drive there for the day.
Yes. More than half of the homes have a sauna, and a number sleep eight or more. The catch is distance: the sea is a drive away, not a walk.
Billund, just under an hour by car. Buses via Grindsted and Varde take around three hours forty, so most people hire a car at the airport.
Two stations, Oksbøl and Baunhøj, sit on the Vestbanen between Nørre Nebel and Esbjerg via Varde. The line helps for Varde and Esbjerg but not for the beaches.
