Hemmet is a tiny village near Jutland's west coast, with big holiday houses spread around it and Ringkøbing Fjord close by. Most have three bedrooms, a wood burner and often a sauna. Bork Havn has a grocery and cafes, but plan on driving for most things.
Hemmet is a small village of under 300 people and a parish of about 500, in Ringkøbing-Skjern Municipality. The homes are spread over several kilometres, with the middle of the group a few kilometres west of the village, so expect to drive to most places. Most are Danish holiday houses with three bedrooms, sleeping about six, and nearly all have a wood burner, with a sauna in a good share. Almost none has a pool. Bork Havn, which shares Hemmet's postcode, is a former fishing harbour from 1933 on Ringkøbing Fjord, now used by leisure boats and houseboats, with a grocery and a few cafes. The fjord is a shallow lagoon, 2 to 3 metres deep, shielded from the North Sea by the Holmsland Dunes. Evenings are quiet and mostly spent at the house.
A harbour on Ringkøbing Fjord with a grocery, cafes, the Bork Viking Harbour and courses in kayaking, SUP, windsurfing and kitesurfing.
Denmark's fifth-largest fishing port, built around the canal through the Holmsland Dunes; around 33 minutes by car.
A bird reservation on a peninsula in the south-western corner of Ringkøbing Fjord.
Denmark's largest river by volume, restored to a more natural state, with a large delta where it meets the fjord.
Billund Airport is the realistic choice, about 57 km or 57 minutes by car, with British Airways flights from Heathrow and Norwegian from Gatwick. Hemmet is 15 km southwest of Skjern and 12 km southwest of Tarm, so a car is not optional here.
Summer is the main season, when the water sports at Bork Havn are running and the harbour holds its festival at the beginning of August. Spring and autumn suit walking and watching birds around Tipperne and the Skjern River wetlands, and the wood burner and sauna earn their keep. Winter is very quiet, so expect to rely on Skjern for shops.

About 33 minutes by car. Hvide Sande sits around the canal that links Ringkøbing Fjord to the North Sea and is Denmark's fifth-largest fishing port.
Billund, about 57 minutes by road. British Airways flies there from Heathrow and Norwegian from Gatwick, and you will need a car at the other end too.
It is a shallow lagoon only 2 to 3 metres deep and shielded from the North Sea by the Holmsland Dunes. At Bork Havn, WestWind runs courses in kayaking, SUP, windsurfing and kitesurfing.
Plenty. Tipperne, on a peninsula in the south-western corner of Ringkøbing Fjord, is a bird reservation, and the restored Skjern River wetlands support waterbirds and otters.
